Position will work on NSF-funded grant entitled “Understanding social networks within complex, nonlinear systems: geographically-integrated history and dynamics GIS” (NSF award # OCI-0941371; 2009-2013). This is an exciting opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary, multinational project. Non-Classified; Full-time; 12-month appointment beginning immediately, with the employment contract ending June 30, 2010. There is a possibility of employment contract renewal beyond that date.  

 

Responsibilities

Assist the lead Principal Investigator in conducting collaborative, multidisciplinary research, supervising a graduate research assistant, and writing a manual-tutorial in English for researchers in history and the historical social sciences on the use of geographic information systems (GIS).

 

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in History or Historical Geography with a focus on the first global age, 1400-1800 (any region, any time period, any thematic emphasis); interest in geographic information systems (GIS). If the candidate does not have adequate GIS preparation, training will be provided as part of the workload.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience using GIS; effective written communication skills in English; reading knowledge of Spanish.

 

Salary

$50,000/year plus full benefits. Non-Classified; Full-time; 12-month appointment beginning immediately, with the employment contract ending June 30, 2010. There is a possibility of employment contract renewal beyond that date.
