With support from Oklahoma NASA Space Grant Consortium, the Geospatial Summer Institute provides undergraduate and graduate students with opportunities to explore technological, application, and industrial experiences in remote sensing, GPS, and GIS. The program includes intensive hands-on geo-techniques training and tours to geospatial industries and government agencies. Undergraduate students can opt to receive 3 credit hours (s/u graded) through the University of Oklahoma. Upon completion students will receive a certificate and stipend. Instructors
The institute will be taught under the direction of Dr. John McIntosh of the Center for Spatial Analysis and Geoinformatics Program at the University of Oklahoma.
Fellowships valued at approximately $1500 each will be awarded to support student attendance. Fellowships will provide for tuition, fees, materials, books and lodging (lodging provided when applicable for those from outside the OKC metro area). Each student will receive a $500 stipend, certificate of completion, textbook, trial software and undergraduates can receive a 3 credit hour option.
Students from all Oklahoma NASA Space Grant Consortium affiliate institutions are eligible to apply. Applicants must be a US citizen and currently enrolled in good standing at an OSNG institution (OU, OSU, Southern Nazarene, Cameron, Langston, SOSU, SWOSU, ECU) or admitted for the 2012/2013 academic year as an incoming student. Current students must continue enrollment for the 2012/2013 academic year, students graduating in spring or summer 2012 are not eligible.
One fellowship will be competitively awarded to students from each affiliate institution. Criteria include academic performance, motivation, potential, and likelihood of continued endeavors in geospatial science. Additional at-large fellowships will be competitively awarded to students from the pool of candidates based on academic achievement, diversity, university population size, and undergraduate/graduate student balance. The number of at large awards will be determined by funding availability. Women and underrepresented minorities are encouraged to apply.
